Thrift Fashion: Myth Buster #1

By May 8, 2014August 1st, 2019No Comments

Aaaannnnnd welcome to the Miracle Hill Thrift Blog! Your life will never be the same. In this first series, I’d like to address some commonly accepted myths about thrift stores, especially regarding fashion. While these myths might exist for good reason, I submit to you that Miracle Hill is daring to break the thrift mold.

This post will be dedicated to disproving just one such myth.

Thrift Myth Buster #1. Thrift = Outdated.

“No way am I going to find cutting edge styles at a thrift shop.”

If you’re reading this, then judging by the title you have both an eye for style, and a nose for a great deal. So why compromise either? Here’s the good news – you never have to. We find that people in the greater Greenville area recycle clothing, shoes, jewelry, and handbags, at a pretty rapid rate. In other words, some folks get rid of stuff almost as fast as they buy it. So for better or worse, the stuff you’re getting really isn’t qualified to be outdated yet. And you know what? The staff is actually trained to stock only merchandise that is suitable for wear, because @MHThrift is just that concerned about your wardrobe.

Let’s put this in story form. The names have been changed to protect the innocent:

The month is March. Meet Sierra – just your average local fashionista.

She decides to give her BFF Lois a mall haul of rags for Lois’ 28th bday. Score!

Let’s see… an oversized sweaty, acid washed skinnies, a pair of stacked heel sandals, a cutesie romper, a medallion necklace and an Egyptian tunic. Yikes! Lois is in love. Except she kind of goes to the mall every weekend sooo… it just wasn’t meant to last. She wears the stuff a few times (while hanging out with Sierra) then bye bye, brand newbies – off to a good cause and a second life!

This is where we come in.

Fast forward to May. Unsuspecting 25 year-old Blanche wants to do a little shopping on her lunch break. Now, Blanche is also a classy (if a little more creative) local fashionista. And it goes without saying that she’s not willing to settle, so she doesn’t go to just any thrift store. She goes to – you guessed it – @MHThrift.

And behold! Some barely used, super cute, just-her-size, totally-this-season stuff beckons her to give it a second chance at life. She doesn’t dare resist.

Blanche

Summary? Sierra already forgot what she bought for Lois anyway. Lois felt really good about sharing her wealth of closet ’14 musts. And Blanche and her thrift haul live happily ever after (with plenty of #OOTD & #ThriftFashion tweets to prove it).

And the best part is that when Blanche made her purchase, every penny contributed to Gospel-driven homeless shelters across upstate SC. What’s not to love?

So when you shop at @MHThrift, it’s all about seeing what grabs you, and building an original yet runway-relevant combo from there. I like to call it the simplest equation ever:

Your eye for style + organized racks of trendy apparel + community awareness = major win-win-win.

Now doesn’t it feel good to be a part of something bigger? Embark on the journey that is #ThriftFashion.

You’ll never look back.
