Introduction to Foster Care

South Carolina’s Extreme Shortage of Foster Families

When a child is removed from their biological home due to abuse or neglect, they need a stable and loving foster family to care for them. Although foster homes are designed to be temporary, the love and care a child receives while there will last a lifetime.

There’s a dire need for foster families in South Carolina. The numbers are ever-changing, but on any given day there are more than 3,900 children in foster care in our state, yet there are only around 2,100 South Carolina foster families. That means there are around 1,800 children in our state with no place to call home.

Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me.

Matthew 18:5

Our Foster Care Services

Doing Our Part to Recruit Foster Care Families

As an organization whose mission is to serve people experiencing homelessness, Miracle Hill assumes the responsibility to help children in foster care find stable, safe, and loving homes.

Our foster care program answers the call to help children the best way we know how: by bridging the gap between the number of children in foster care and the number of foster families in our state. Miracle Hill is a private foster care provider that helps recruit foster families and provides them with support throughout the licensing process, placements, and beyond.

How Foster Care Changes Lives

Requirements

For Miracle Hill's Foster Families

As a faith-based organization, Miracle Hill’s foster care services are administered in a Christ-centered environment. Our licensing specialists and care coordinators aren’t just skilled professionals—they also play a role in our foster parents’ spiritual journeys. Our team regularly prays with foster families and helps connect them with church and community resources.

Jesus Christ is the center of all we do. Because He plays such an immense role in our organization’s mission and the way we care for others, we believe we can offer the best foster care guidance to those who share our same beliefs.

In addition to the requirements enforced by the State of South Carolina, Miracle Hill Ministries also applies a few additional requirements for foster parents who partner with our organization.

To be part of Miracle Hill’s foster programs, parents must:

  • Be followers of Jesus Christ and provide a statement of faith
  • Be active in and accountable to a Christian church
  • Agree in belief and practice with our doctrinal statement

Despite our requirements for foster parents, Miracle Hill will absolutely never turn away a foster child.

We have always, and will continue to, serve and protect foster children from any religious background and of any race, color, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or political belief. No exceptions.

Other Licensing Options

It is our sincere desire that every child in need has a home.

Miracle Hill Ministries knows that there are many people who are called to foster and who are able to provide safe and loving homes but may not meet our organization’s requirements. Please do not let this deter you from fostering!

If you are interested in becoming a licensed foster parent but Miracle Hill’s beliefs do not align with your own, we will gladly and graciously refer you to another trusted organization that would be a better fit. There are so many children in need, and so many fantastic organizations that can support you on the road to fostering.
